Questions and Answers

Q. Why does a pastor of church staff member need a license to to counseling?

A. In most states, church staff does not need such a license. However, many states are proposing legislation that would require church personnel to obtain a state license. Even though this is a breech of the church/state separation concept, an accreditation and license would serve a three-fold purpose: (1) A church administered license would insure to the public that a counselor has achieved the proper training to deal with the life-controlling issues that are facing today's population. (2) A church administered license protects the spiritual character of the Faith Based counseling discipline. (3) A church administered license protects the religious freedom of the benefits that the clients receive from being able to address their root problems which are most likely spiritual in nature. Having good credentials is always essential.

Q
. Is the FBCTI License a State credential?

A. No. FBCTI does not issue State credentials or licensure nor does the State issue ministry credentials. When someone is licensed to the gospel ministry it is an ecclesiastical credential which the State does not have oversight. The same is true with a Pastoral Counseling licensure. But, the church must maintain even a higher standard than the State simply because we are called to advance the Kingdom of God.

Q.
Do you have to have a regionally accredited degree for an institute of higher learning to obtain FBCTI's Pastoral Counseling licensure?

A. No. Theological Institutions are accredited in a different manner. However, FBCTI encourages ministers to acquire all of the education possible in order to be able to move through whatever doors that God might open for you to serve more people.

Q.
How can FBCTI's unique pastoral counseling license benefit me?

A. Having proven ministerial credentials places a person in the category of an alternative professional. The faith community has extremely powerful and plentiful resources that even the Federal Government does not have. Faith Based Initiatives are rapidly spreading throughout our country due to the documented facts regarding our care giving success.
